Final Project

These particular photos will explore the importance of juxtaposition, art is often placed in galleries or in exhibits however these photos challenge what will happen when works are placed in a different context.   In recognizing and focusing on such a concept, tag art falls under this specific category.  Inspired by the idea of Marcel Duchamp’s “ The fountain” the idea of placing an artistic concept or a ready- made in Duchamp’s case, out of context changed and altered the audience’s perception.   The idea of placing ones work on a wall outside of a place of business or on a street sign changes the targeted audience, however it is here that these photos actually take precedence.  In acknowledging the beauty of each piece I question why the setting of a work affects the quality and the lack of attention received by individuals who passed by. I was originally inspired by the documentary “ Exit Through the Gift Shop” which really made me think about the revolution that these artists have started and the importance of their work in modern art.  Although these pieces are sometimes dismissed, I feel like it is these small works that linger on brick walls and yellow traffic signs that evoke and reveal the true importance of art.
This picture is an image that falls near the back of the building. While standing in at this location taking my photos no one stopped to read or acknowledge the image.  Its location near the dumpster seem to overt any viewers.
This small army of aunts decorated the wall as well as the side walk.  Although many artists have painted images of animals and placed them in exhibits, these particular aunts seemed to be dismissed by the common eye.
In the first image there is a dumpster to the right,  In attempting to capture a different angel for some of the other works, I found this series of peace signs.  The repetition reminded me of Andy Warhol's pop culture pieces.  The background of the fence bodes well when demonstrating the idea of juxtaposition.
This was a street sign that had a blue bird stuck on the surface, although small, this quaint bird is still a piece of work and should be recognized as one.  I chose this image because I to almost missed this work myself due to its location.
In this piece the man walks past the image, dismissing the idea that an artistic work lingered on the bricks next to him.  It seems that many individuals never look around to appreciate the small beautiful details.
I chose this as my last photo to indicate the two individuals that allow this brilliant piece to live as just a background.   I also purposefully contrasted the color of the elephant to the background in order for it to stand out in my image.

Photographic Perspective- Depth

By placing an object in the image it changes the location of the canvas and creates different depths. Each picture has an object that is brought in from outside of the original context which places the art as a background image rather than the main character. Each depiction has a different focus and uses the space to evoke different feelings towards each item.  In looking through each image the audience can identify the common factor.  However in using various elements in each depiction the depth of the work changes from beginning to end.

Photographic Perspective- Texture

Texture is often a key element to producing an effective picture and can help in portraying the artist's feelings.  The smooth texture that is portrayed in the canvas is rendered by that of the wall that has an opposite appeal.  Each view represents the outlying texture that the canvas is placed upon and is a artistic contrast.  The variation in shade and color evoke the rough field of the wall near that of the smooth canvas.

Photographic Perspective- Frame

Framing is effective when attempting to produce an image of focus.  It leads the eye of the audience to the focal point of the artist.  Each image is is framed differently and has different views, but has a consistent background. The piece that frames the image is the top of a table that was lifted and adjusted to depict a certain frame.

Photographic Perspective- Line

The line captured within the pictures is used as a vehicle to progress the viewers eye to the top of the image.  Various lines used within the images helps to produce different effects.  The main line with in the picture is the pattern of bricks that start from the front left corner and end near the back right corner.  They lead the audience through the work, while the straight line produced by the chair on the right  accompanies and helps direct the view to the left side.  Each line adds to the whole  of the work and is an effective element in portraying its truth.
